Ceva Prilactone Next is a prescription medication used to treat congestive heart failure in dogs caused by degenerative mitral valve disease. Its active ingredient is spironolactone, and it is usually used in combination with standard cardiac therapies such as diuretics and ACE inhibitors. This medication is a palatable beef-flavored chewable tablet with an easy-to-break scoring line for precise administration.

How it works
Spinolactone is an aldosterone antagonist. It helps dogs with heart disease by:

  • Reducing water retention: Inhibiting sodium retention in the kidneys, thereby increasing water excretion and reducing cardiac preload.
  • Preventing myocardial fibrosis: Aldosterone promotes myocardial remodeling and fibrosis; spironolactone blocks this harmful process, protecting cardiac function.
