Ceva Amodip is a prescription specifically designed for cats. Main ingredient is amlodipine, used to treat systemic hypertension in cats. It effectively lowers blood pressure, thereby protecting the cat's kidneys, eyes, brain, and heart from long-term damage.
Features and Uses
- High Palatability: Chicken-flavored chewable tablets increase cats' appetite (palatability).
- Precise Dosage: Each tablet contains 1.25 mg of amlodipine. The tablet is scored and can be easily cut in half for easy administration to small cats.
- Mechanism of Action: As a calcium channel blocker, it relaxes and dilates blood vessels, improving blood flow and thus lowering blood pressure.
Precautions and Side Effects
While Amodip is generally well tolerated, the following precautions should be taken:
- Common Side Effects: Mild and transient vomiting (13%), decreased appetite, diarrhea, lethargy, or dehydration may occur.
- Special Observation: Some cats taking this medication long-term may develop gingival hyperplasia (excessive gingival growth) or swollen submandibular lymph nodes.
- Contraindications: Not for use in cats with cardiogenic shock, severe aortic stenosis, severe liver failure, or hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.
- Drug interactions: If your cat is taking other blood pressure medications (such as diuretics or ACE inhibitors), you should inform your veterinarian, as combined use may result in excessively low blood pressure.
